G Stanley Hall
G. Stanley Hall was born in Ashfield, Massachusetts in 1846. He not only contributed to psychology, but also contributed to education. He is considered the father of the child study movement.
His works and theories
G Stanley Hall believed that child development follows the evolution scale, he describes the time of puberty as storm and stress. Hall believed that the pre-adolescent child develops to its best when it is not forced to follow constraints, but rather to go through the stages of evolution freely.
His Impact Today
His contributions helped shape the education system and how children should be taught. Hall believed that teaching co-ed classes would be detrimental to development of adolescents, he believed that having the opposite sex there would be distracting to the students. This idea is still around today with the issues around the dress code in various schools.
